Anti-Drug Awareness Session at IUHT: A Collective Step Toward a Healthier Future

On March 3, 2026, Islamabad University of Health Sciences and Emerging Technologies (IUHT) proudly hosted an impactful Anti-Drug Awareness Session at its Head Office Conference Room in Gulberg. The session, chaired by the Vice Chancellor, was organized in reference to the initiative of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), reinforcing the shared national commitment to building drug-free campuses across Pakistan.

A Strong Collaborative Effort

The meeting reflected strong institutional engagement. IUHT was represented by the Vice Chancellor, PS to the Vice Chancellor, Administrative Coordinator, Vice Principal Nursing, HR Officer, and Transport Officer. The delegation from Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) was led by Assistant Director Amir under the Drug Demand Reduction Initiative. He was accompanied by Dr. Zara (Session Speaker), Inspector Ayesha Nazir, and three supporting officers. Their presence underscored ANF’s proactive and collaborative approach in addressing drug-related challenges within educational institutions.

Understanding the Challenge:

Awareness as Prevention The ANF team delivered a comprehensive and insightful presentation covering:

• Various forms and types of drugs

• Comparative analysis of substances

• Short-term and long-term physical effects

• Psychological and social consequences, particularly among youth

The session emphasized that awareness is the first line of defense. Students and institutions must recognize early warning signs and adopt preventive strategies to reduce vulnerability to substance abuse. The discussion also highlighted the importance of early intervention and community support in safeguarding young minds.

ANF’s Drug Demand Reduction Mission

The primary focus of ANF’s initiative is Drug Demand Reduction through awareness, rehabilitation, and youth engagement. During the session, the delegation shared valuable collaboration opportunities with IUHT. One of the most encouraging aspects discussed was ANF’s commitment to empowering youth through practical exposure and active participation.

ANF offers:

• Free Internship Programs (4 and 8 weeks)

These internships provide students with hands-on experience in drug demand reduction activities, along with exposure to affiliated hospitals and rehabilitation centers operating across different divisions.

• ANF Youth Clubs Platforms

Designed to engage students in awareness campaigns and community-driven initiatives.

• Youth Ambassador Positions

Leadership opportunities for passionate students to represent anti-drug advocacy efforts within their institutions and communities. Such initiatives not only build professional capacity but also nurture responsible citizenship and leadership among youth.

• Building a Drug-Free Campus

In a constructive and forward-looking recommendation, ANF formally advised IUHT to:

• Establish an Anti-Drug Committee within the university

• Appoint a qualified counselor or psychologist to address student mental health and substance abuse concerns

• Develop a structured Drug-Free Campus Policy

• Maintain sustained coordination with ANF authorities

The ANF team also shared plans to revisit IUHT in April, once students resume regular attendance, to conduct a larger awareness session and directly engage with the broader student body.

A Shared Commitment

The meeting concluded on a positive and motivational note, with mutual appreciation and a shared vision for a safer academic environment. The Vice Chancellor expressed gratitude to the ANF delegation for their informative session and collaborative spirit. This session marked more than just a meeting—it symbolized a united step toward protecting the future of our youth. By working together, institutions and national bodies can create campuses where health, awareness, and resilience thrive.
